A mixed (Disney) bag Monday
No, you aren’t seeing things. It really is a very big version of the Luxo Junior Lamp and his favorite ball.
And it is now permanently in Emeryville at Pixar. Jeff Pidgeon shares the image with us saying “A gift from our friends at ACMI (The Australian Center For The Moving Image). They built it to help promote our traveling "Art of Pixar" exhibit during its stay down under. It lights up, too!”
Read more about it here in a release from ACMI.
Perhaps this foretells a visit by the exhibition soon to Northern California? Hmmm...
Speaking of exhibitions, the San Francisco International Film Festival has a film that Disney fans should find particularly of interest. Ted Thomas is presenting the world premiere of his documentary “Walt & El Grupo” at the Festival.
The film will be shown several times during the Festival. However, the one not to miss will be Monday, April 28th at 6 pm at the Kabuki Theater with an extended Q&A session with director Ted Thomas. (yes, he is indeed the son of Disney animator Frank Thomas.) Tickets are still available. The film is also being presented courtesy of the Walt Disney Family Museum, which has a great online exhibition on El Grupo’s 1941 South American excursion.
That promises to be a great evening and if you are in the Bay Area, you should not miss out!
Further south, a couple of events coming along in June at Disneyland of note. First, if you haven’t been paying attention, the Toy Story Mania attraction in Disney’s California Adventure has it’s grand opening coming on June 17th. Folks in the know say that this attraction will be plenty of fun for children of all ages. (Yes, that certainly means adult, too!) I’m looking forward to it because...
I’ll be visiting the park the following weekend for another event. Okay a few events. But the one I’m looking forward to in particular is this one:

Hmmm, it’s been a while since I went to camp. I think I still have my old “Camp Grizzly” t-shirt and when last I checked, I could still fit into it. Sounds like a plan...

But that’s not all that is going on that weekend! Sunday the 22nd sees the release of some new merchandise to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the Tiki Room at Disneyland. And there are some great items by some wonderful artists planned for sale. Check out the web page for the merchandise here.
Some interesting items today, but be sure to check back later this week for more Disney information that I sure you won’t want to miss!
